One last report for Solidarity! It's with mixed feelings that I write this one last time.
Among all the GM plant closings recently announced, CCA Flint is doing great. A heartfelt "Thank you" for all the hard work and long hours our members have been working to meet schedules. The people on the floor are the backbone of GM and the UAW. This Shop Committee recognizes it, even if GM won't.
Christmas is a time for peace and harmony. Sadly, it is also a time of great stress, and a time when depression always seems to rear its ugly head. Pay attention to your fellow workers, neighbors, friends and family members. Listen to what they are saying. A friendly smile or a kind word just may make a drastic difference in their attitude for the day.
There is no end in sight for the problems in KRONOS! Please, as always, stay aware of your time. Check your pay stubs diligently, and take any problems to your Supervisor ASAP. Do not give management a chance to mess your time up. Contact your Committeeperson if they cannot or refuse to fix it.
Wow! What a great job our employees did on the recent honoring of our Veterans, from the displays to the gate collection. The Shop Committee salutes you all.
I have a question I have always needed an answer to. Why do UAW members always seem to believe what Management tells them and disregard what their representatives throughout the plant like rapidly not against. The Shop Committee welcomes your advice and opinions. I know all decisions are not popular, but they are, at the least, well thought out for the membership. UGH!
It's been an adventure. I once accused a Committeperson of not knowing what he was doing. Hah, I took his challenge and got involved, then quickly I learned I didn't have a clue what I was talking about. To all of our members, take the challenge and get involved. It will be the best decision you will ever make. It's been my pleasure to represent our CCA Flint Membership.
Lastly, may everyone have a joyous and Merry Christmas with best wishes to all!

October
Fall has arrived, with once again a wonderful array of living color! It's just a feeling of awe to watch the seasons change here in the state of Michigan and across the nation.
Once again, the UAW/CCA Old Newsboys Golf Outing was a resounding success. Kudos to Mr. Perry Windels and his crew for holding such a wonderful and productive event! Thanks to all the participants and donators, $5,250 was handed over to the ONB on September 28th and accepted with much thanks. "Let No Child Be Forgotten"
The Shop Committee cannot overstate this - Keep track of your time daily! KRONOS, it seems, will always be problematic. Contact your Supervisor if you notice a problem. Inform your Committeeperson if help is needed.
As we near new contract negotiations, Management will increasingly be more alert to Shop Rule Violations - expect it! With each and every violation, negotiating is a better contract for our UAW membership becomes a little more difficult. This is nothing new. It happens every 4 years, like clockwork. Help us to help the membership.
November 6, 2018, is a day to mark on your personal calendars. Vote! Vote! Vote! It is a Constitutional Right! Use it to make your wishes known. This is our country, our state, our city and our county. We, the voting public, control who is elected to govern, not the politicians! Make your opinion heard by your vote!
So many times, I have heard people complain and whine about how things are going and how they should be, only to find out they never voted! End of that conversation. I apologize for a bit of an age-old rant.
Last, but not least, Happy Enjoyable Halloween! Be careful of all the goblins and other strange little creatures roaming the streets on the 31st. The safety of our children should be our #1 priority.
There is a Trunk or Treat on the 27th of October from 12:00-2:00 pm at the Local 659 Hall. This is a safe and fun way to have the kiddies enjoy Halloween. Our CCA Plant will be accepting candy donations until the 26th. Please consider donating!

September
Great news! We have the approval to add 15 new members to the CCA Flint Local 659 family. It has yet to be determined how many of these slots will be filled by Appendix A of the National Agreement, but assuredly some of the temporaries will be converted. You will see this process begin soon.
It's looking very well for the approval of tooling monies to make all of our Wrap Side lines compatible for the new T1 door and future products of the same style. Kudos to the men and women of the ELPO shop for all their hard work and cooperation. More work for Flint CCA is our continued goal.
Apparently, management has been cutting deals with our UAW employees to enhance their bottom line number in the Service Warehouse? Why would any Union employee agree to work for 1/2 their allowed wage? The Shop Committee is very disturbed and appalled by these reports and will begin to investigate.
Reaching Management's goals in half of the time is the same as eliminating a Union employee from being hired. This is Supervision's way of creating a hostile working condition for our employees. It takes quite a bit to get me really angry, but they have succeeded! You can be assured I will be having this conversation with the Plant Manager. If you know of situations where this type of philandering is happening, please let your Committeeperson know ASAP, so we can look into it.
At the very least, we are Union family. Treat each other with respect and kindness and our working environment becomes far more livable. With all the OT we work and time spent together right now, it is a must to be in a positive frame of mind.
Once again, and it seems like always, make sure each and every day that your time is correct. Use the ICE machine to check on a regular basis. KRONOS is definitely not getting any more reliable. It is your responsibility to check your time and monitor your check stubs. Keep the Shop Committee informed of any problems Management does not fix in a timely manner.
Our 16th Annual Old Newsboys Golf Outing is taking place Sunday, September 23, 2018. Please get your rosters in to Perry Windels ASAP! It's a great time for a great cause. Help us to make it a huge success once again. Sign in is at 8:00 am, tee-off at 9:00 am, at Briar Ridge Golf Course in Montrose. See you there!

August
Wow, almost time for the little ones to head back to school already! Where has the summer gone? Seems each year goes by faster than the one before.
Lots of good things going on at Flint CCA. We are in the process to replace the latest round of retirements. We are following the contract language from Appendix A before converting Temporaries, as always. The Shop Committee is pushing hard for the conversion of all Temporaries, as it is evident we need more permanent help.
The Shop Committee is speaking with high-level management on a daily basis to bring even more work to Flint CCA! We have our foot in the door after being awarded the T1 Door and we intend to continue filling our Paint Shop to maximum capabilities; our goal being a full 2nd Shift Operation.
We have suggested a few options to local and upper management for more utilization of the Service Warehouse Plant 2 side. It's our intention to keep the ball rolling in a very positive manner!
Alas, with more work comes more hours spent in the plant. Be patient! It takes a while for management to realize that an excess of constant overtime is tiring to all before the hiring process can begin. It will indeed happen, if we continue to bring in new work.
As always, pay attention to KRONOS! It is not getting any better, as management is struggling as much as we are. It's your money. Stay on top of it daily!
It's once again time for PEL Summer School at Black Lake. To those selected, enjoy the experience and make all your Union Brothers and Sisters proud. Listen, learn, and begin to get involved.
September 23rd will be our Old Newsboys Golf Outing. Let's make this the best one ever! See Perry Windels or any member of the Shop Committee for information. It is a great day of fun and camaraderie for a truly wonderful cause.
Each and every one of us has pitfalls in our path on a continued basis. That is just life. Rumors and judgements never help. They only harm. Walking in another's shoes is far more difficult than it sounds. The meaning of "UNION" is far more than just contracts and working environments.
Plant "State of the Business" meetings are set for August 29th. Please plan to attend and make your voice heard. The Shop Committee indeed is always in need of your help!
Thank you all for your tireless efforts in moving CCA Flint Local 659 into the future.

June
June of 2018, my how time flies! Talk about time passing quickly, Happy 100th Birthday to WWII Veteran and UAW Retiree Isaac "Ike" Fabela! We at Local 659 and CCA Flint Thank You for your service to the Country, to your family and friends, and for just being a great humanitarian.
The Shop Committee has once again been working very hard to get each and every member the vacation time off this summer that they requested. To that end, management has agreed to hire 15 Summer help Temporaries. They were to begin showing up 6/11/18 and continue until all 15 have arrived. Welcome them with open arms as the weather continues to warm up.
Management has also agreed to hire 2 more Permanent employees, as required by National Language Appendix A. This is the first option prior to converting two of our Temporaries. As soon as we hear, more information will be passed on. We are also, as usual, trying to get management to convert all of the current contractual Temps.
Good news - Our plant is producing and shipping more product than ever! This is great news for our employees. The plant is utilizing Plan B language practically each and every day, with even more hours available.
Bad news - The continued high rate of refusal for weekend OT is going to drive more Mandatory Saturdays. The Shop Committee will do what is necessary to retain all of our current work, get more work, and get all our Temporary workers hired in a timely manner. I believe our members agree with the Shop Committee's first choice - hire more people!
KRONOS is as messed up as ever! Always check your time, be consistent at it, and report errors and discrepancies to your supervisor as quickly as you can. Remember, contact your supervisor first. Contact your Committeeperson if they fail to provide you with suitable answers or refuse to fix it.
The Constitutional Convention began on Monday, June 11, 2018. IT was a week-long event that is important to the future of the UAW. Say thank you to our representatives when you see them - Anthony Redmond and Michele Gregory. We trust in their decisions.
Fathers, hope you enjoyed your celebrated day! Enjoy, in the peace of knowing the family appreciates each and everything you do!

May
At last, springtime seems to have arrived! Flowers are blooming, mowers humming, and farmers are on the go at a rapid pace. Hoping all had a wonderful Mother's Day celebration!
The Shop Committee is working hard to keep things rolling forward at CCA Flint. Eleven new contractually allotted temps have arrived and have been welcomed with open arms.
We made every attempt to reacquire the same temporary status employees we had previously employed, but to no avail. That has been a very frustrating experience for the entire Shop Committee and for our employees. One out of 7 is not what we were looking for at all. Hopefully, it is something that can be looked at during next contract negotiations.
The Shop Committee has also approved the hiring of up to 15 temporaries to cover Summer vacations. It is our intention to get each and every one the vacation time off they request. We are discussing with management how many and when they will arrive.
Please, Please, Please... watch your time each and every day. Your supervisor should have it entered into KRONOS each day. If that is not happening, let your Committeeperson know. It seems there are shortages happening each and every week. Stay on top of it. It is your money!
Congratulations to Tony Redmond and Michele Gregory, our newly elected representatives to the Constitutional Convention in June. Thank you to all who took part in the election process. Your participation was greatly appreciated.
Management has informed the Shop Committee that major changes to the departmental structure of the Service Warehouse Plant 2 are being considered. We will keep all informed as we learn more.
We need your help! Attitudes of a positive nature make our working environment far more productive and healthy. Management and the Union Leadership agree with this. Let us, as members of the UAW Local 659 CCA Flint Team, be the ones who show the way.
Come in smiling, keep positive work attitudes, and leave smiling. Let's do it for our own health and for that of our families. An impossible task? I and the of the Shop Committee have faith that our membership will succeed hands down!
Til next time, my door is always open!

April
The Shop Committee hopes each and every CCA employee had a wonderful Easter Holiday break, working or relaxing.
We would also like to welcome the final 10 Temporaries to the official ranks of GM Permanents, officially hired with the Seniority Date of April 2, 2018. Congratulations!
On April 16, their replacements as called for in Appendix A of the National Agreement, arrived. Our number has been increased to 11, as calculated by the agreement formula. When you see these new workers, please feel free to welcome them into our member arena.
The Shop Committee has also signed a letter requesting an additional number of Vacation Replacement Temps to allow all of our Seniority Members the vacation time they have requested.
As always, please check your time each and every day. KRONOS is, apparently, a very finicky system to work with. Scan the ICE machine as often as possible and report errors to your Supervisor. It's your money we are talking about. Be diligent. Contact your Committeeperson if management will not correct any problem.
The Shop Committee cannot say this enough... "Thank you" CCA Flint's UAW membership is the most generous and helpful group there is . Whether donating time or money, we are always amongst the leaders, always!
While texting or calling your Committeeperson is fine, it fails to send a signal to management that there are truly problems happening on the floor. Please, follow the contractually established procedure and place a call with your Supervisor. Ask him or her to document the time and place correctly, and do it promptly.
Unless we follow the system set in place, management fails to believe there is a problem. They just don't understand our complaints or don't seemingly care.
Please... place a Committee Call. If it is specifically a Safety Item, include the UAW Safety Rep in your request. We must get management's attention before we can make major progress in correcting the situation being addressed.
YOU are the UNION! Always walk with your head held high, proud to be a member of UAW Local 659.
Thanks, and there are many more good things to come.

March
It's a well-known fact that our plant, CCA Flint, is running without the needed manpower each and every day. Employees and supervision are getting very frustrated with the situations. The Shop Committee applauds our members for their cooperation and diligence in remaining calm and productive.
The Committee wants all of our temporaries converted to full-time GM employees before allowing the hiring of more temps. Please bear with us. It may get worse before it gets better.
Remember, we do not have a set productive output at CCA Flint. Goals set by management are another story, as is the Paint Line Wrap & Hang. Each employee has an assigned job working in unison with everyone else. Therefore, Page 68 of the 2015 National Agreement takes effect.
(79h) In the event a standard has not been established on a job, an employee who is following the prescribed method and using the tools provided in the proper manner and performing at a normal pace, will not be disciplined for failure to obtain an expected amount of production on that job.
This can be interpreted many ways but in gist means: do the best you can safely; no more, no less.
The plant is still experiencing problems with the KRONOS time keeping system. Be sure to check the ICE Machines and watch your pay stubs closely. Report problems to management ASAP and to your representative if they offer no help.
The Shop Committee requested Labor have training classes to get Canvassing corrected in all departments. We were granted the request and all Supervisors attended the class. Alas, apparently to no avail at all! We are trying to get this ongoing problem corrected ASAP.
With the help of our Receiving Dock Drivers and the Inspectors, we have been able to insource parts that have been coming in already painted. Always be aware and let either our Inspectors or Shop Committee know. Great Job, people!
Finally, after all the phone calls, all the arguments and frustrations, Management informed the Shop Committee on Friday morning at 8:00 am that CCA Fint has been granted 10 new Permanent Employees! The requisition has been submitted. TWe should begin the process shortly.
Hope everyone has a joyous and pleasant Easter! Be Safe.

February
The Shop Committee would like to thank all of you for your kind and warm welcome of UAW International Vice President Cindy Estrada, Director of Region 1D Gerald Kariem, and the remainder of their support teams to our CCA Plant on Friday, February 2. She expressed to us how welcome she felt and was really glad for the tour.
Profit sharing will be included in your paychecks on February 23. Once again, this is a substantial amount of money. Thank your National Bargaining Committee once again for a job well done.
Management has been very quiet on the Cell Phone Policy since the first of the year. The Shop Committee is expecting that to change soon. Be aware! Do not walk and talk, nor drive while talking on the phone! Do not endanger your fellow workers as well as yourselves. Let's all go home safe each and every night.
Get your vacation slips turned in as soon as you can. The Shop Committee is pressing Management to get 4th of July shutdown data out ASAP, so you can adequately fill out your slips. Expect that information to be available shortly.
Wow, on the 2nd of February, there were some incredible tasty soups for the cook off! Even Cindy Estrada is asking for recipes, and $364.75 was raised for Charity. Great job to all and thank you to the Women's Committee and the cooks!
Please, continue to monitor your pay stubs and Kronos. Report all mistakes to your Supervisor ASAP. If they don't help you, contact your Shop Committee as soon as you can. Remember, all corrections to Kronos must be made on Monday to be on your weekly pay.
Last, but not least, I hope you had a very Happy Valentine's Day. Sometimes, even the slightest kindness can help struggling individuals to fight another day.

December
It seems the years get shorter and shorter. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of our members at CCA Flint, Local 659 and their families.
This is the time when we reflect on how fortunate we are, and also how we can assist those in our community and extended families who may be less so.
Statistics show that holiday seasons can be devastating for those who are struggling. Just a verbal recognition, a small gesture of kindness to another individual may save a life. It takes less energy to smile than it does to scowl. Depression is very real, let's all be mindful and courteous of others.
The Old Newsboys paper collection was again a successful event. Special thanks to all who participated and donated. We will once again donate upwards of $20,000 to Old Newsboys for the year! Thank you all!
The Shop Committee is continuing on our quest to procure more work for this facility. Your ideas and suggestions are beneficial to our goals in succeeding. I want to commend all of our members on their work ethic, high-quality workmanship and safety awareness. The number one reason which helps us in acquiring new work is our people!
Social media can either be a good source of valuable information, or a very sad and deplorable way to spread complete and utter gossip. The Shop Committee would like to make a request of all of our Brothers and Sisters use it for valuable information only. Remember, we the members are not the only people who can see what is being said.
Again, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to ALL!

November
The Shop Committee hopes that everyone enjoyed their Veterans Day. Even when it's not Veterans Day, keep in mind all your friends and relatives who have served or are serving to keep this country strong. Take the time to let them know just how much their service means to us all. Say a silent prayer or thank you to all of the deceased who have earned the freedoms and liberties that we so enjoy each and every day.
The Shop Committee wishes to thank all of our fellow CCA workers for their diligence and awareness on the floor. Once again, our members alerted the Shop Committee of a part arriving at our docks already painted. Upon investigation, it was being painted by a third party. Electro Prime. As of last Thursday, it is now assigned directly to us to be painted and processed. We count heavily on our Inspectors and Dock Employees to keep this process in check. Thank you all.
The racking projects are progressing rapidly. It looks like the Paint Shop project will soon be operational. Expect a few problems as material is being moved from its current location to the new racking.
The Rail Dock 2 area is on schedule for completion on December 31. Please be cautious if you have to enter the areas of construction.
Cindy Estrada put out a call on the UAW Facebook page for help in Puerto Rico. Eighteen UAW members responded and spent two weeks there helping to rebuild and administering to the injured.
We at CCA-Flint are proud to have an employee who responded to the call. The Shop Committee and all of our members wish to thank Marie Andreen from the bottom of our hearts! You have made us all so proud.
Regarding Safety, management has laid out the new PPE and Mobile device rules that are to take effect on January 1, 2018.
The Shop Committee has heard and is responding to our employee's concerns about wearing safety shields and driving trucks. A letter has been written and sent to our International Safety Representatives to address these concerns. We will inform the membership of the reply as soon as we hear back from them.
In the meantime, please stop for every Stop Sign, honk your horn at intersections, DO NOT TAKE SHORT CUTS, obey ALL Safety protocols, and return home each day to your family both healthy and happy.
Finally, the Shop Committee would like to wish every a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving. Enjoy the company of your family and loved ones.

October
So, it appears our universe is slightly off kilter, floundering in worst case scenarios. Whether natural disasters, man-made or just bad mojo, we must deal with it all and yet keep positive attitudes. We must be true unionists, all for one cause, whatever the situation may be. What is good for one is good for all, and good will prevail over all alternatives. It must!
The CCA Flint Shop Committee and all of our Shop Members give our condolences, prayers and support to all the victims of recent turmoil in the world.
CCA Flint recently held our annual Old Newsboys Golf Outing. Once again, it was a resounding success! Special thanks to Mr. Perry Windels for organizing it, as he has for the past 15 years. A total of $5,014 has been donated to Old Newsboys, with more coming in. A great time was had by all!
Summer and Fall PEL Classes at Black Lake are finished for 2017. The Shop Committee Thanks each and every one who attended from CCA Flint for representing our Local and plant in a respectful, enjoyable manner. We have heard nothing but praise and admiration. Also, your enthusiasm is so very infectious! Keep it up!
Please enjoy this lovely fall in Michigan. Whether hunting, color touring, or trick or treating, enjoy! Always remember that safety is for you and your family. Stand together, keep the faith, and always move forward. Later...

April
I have to admit; spring in Michigan is never boring! From warm sunshine to a heavy snow in 24 hours, nowhere else like it.
Management’s biggest pet peeves: coming in late for work, cell phones, and ear buds. These three items generate roughly 60% of all the penalties Management tries to invoke upon our workforce. Think about it: all are WELL KNOWN CONTRACTUAL or SAFETY VIOLATIONS within our plant. These are very hard to defend at any time, yet easy to remedy with your help! If you’re going to be late, call 800-222-8889. Put your cell phones in your lockers, purses or anywhere they are safe and use them only during your breaks or lunch period. If you must carry them, pull over and stop your truck. Get off to answer an emergency call and then let your Supervisor know. They also make a type of speaker system that rests around your neck and shoulders, allowing you the freedom to hear your music and your surroundings. PROTECT YOURSELF!
Recently, the nurses have been issuing Medical Passes that contain very vague and misleading language. If you need a pass, be very careful, you MUST CALL IN if you are not going to return to work the next day. 800-222-8889. Document 8 is nothing to mess with; it is contractually a NON-GRIEVABLE ISSUE under normal circumstances. Page 342 of the National Agreement, please read it. PROTECT YOURSELF!
The Shop Committee continues to pursue the conversion of our remaining 22 temporary employees. We are asking everyone to question Management when they will be permanently hired into the GM Family at CCA Flint. The more voices the better!
Finally! Our Local Negotiated Contract Books are heading to the printer! We will inform the membership when they arrive. Guessing 30 days to complete the printing should be adequate.
It’s come to the attention of the Shop Committee that certain Management Personnel coerce our membership to work faster and possibly unsafe by offering early outs. This is not acceptable! Do not fall prey to their practices to make themselves look better in their BOSS’S eyes. Our CCA Division uses goals to reach. National Agreement, page 68, Paragraph (79h) “In the event a standard has not been established on a job, an employee who is following the prescribed method and using the tools provided in the proper manner and performing at a NORMAL PACE, will not be disciplined for failure to obtain an EXPECTED amount of production on that job.” Please work SAFE AT ALL TIMES!
The Shop Committee and the Local 659 Hall have been working to try and find the problem with some members Union Due deductions. It’s larger than we ever thought. Please check your pay receipts ASAP and let Mr. Duane Ballard, our Financial Secretary, know at 810-232-4130, ext. 216 or visit him in person at the Hall. Voting privileges may be affected for the upcoming elections.
Finally, from the Shop Committee: Enjoy a VERY pleasant and welcome Easter weekend with your families and friends. Solidarity!

March
First, congratulations to the 10 new Permanent members of CCA Flint, Welcome Aboard! The Shop Committee wanted all 32, but alas, one step at a time. We will not rest until all are converted. It is obvious to all they are needed to keep CCA-Flint running and be competitive.
The Shop Committee continues to encourage all of our UAW Brothers and Sisters to monitor your pay stubs weekly. Many errors have been found with the KRONOS Time Keeping System. If you have any problems or questions, ask your Supervisor.
SHOP RULE #36 Disregard of Safety Rules or Common Safety Practices (3 days to discharge)
SHOP RULE #40 Repeated violations of Shop or Safety Rules (reprimand to discharge)
Remember, General Motors is not like a democracy! Employees are not innocent until proven guilty. Quite the opposite, they are guilty until proven innocent!
Please keep your cell phones in your lockers or other storage devices until break or lunch. Phone calls and texting while driving or on the job, ear buds, are all now safety violations! If an emergency, contact your Supervisor ASAP. They will cooperate in many cases.
We continue to experience Management doing Bargaining Unit Work. If you see this happening, please contact your Committeeperson. We did not give up any of our work... period!
If you have not received your Vacation request confirmation sheets back yet, contact your Supervisor. They need to let you know so your vacations can be refigured if needed. If they give you the old management runaround, contact your Committeeperson.
We are starting to see Supervision use new tactics to pit our UAW members against one another. Please, do not fall prey to the "win a candy bar games!" Anti-unionism at its worst. Report this if you witness it.
Do not forget! All Committee, Joint Council and Bargaining Positions are up for election. Sign-up is on March 27th, 28th, and 29th at our Local 659 Union Hall. Mailing them in is also acceptable, but I believe they must be notarized. Contact Ken Foley for more information.
Equalization sheets should be posted every week in each Department. Let the Shop Committee know if it is not happening in yours.
The GMS System being used has many conflicting rules that violate our Paragraph 71 and seniority agreements. We are trying to work through them. Please inform Management that you wish to be trained in all Departments and jobs ASAP.
As of Friday, March 10, the paint shop successfully insourced the new Chevy TRAX aluminum hood to paint. Congratulations, your work ethic and quality workmanship are paying dividends to CCA-Flint.
Unfortunately, many of our latest Supervisors have never worked under a Traditional UAW Agreement. Please help us get them to understand it! Place a call to your Committeeperson if you feel you are being violated.
A group standing arm in arm is far more successful than one standing alone. Let's make it happen.
UNION STRONG!

February
A special Thank You, to all employees’, that worked so hard during 2016 to an end result of a maximum Profit Sharing Award of $12,000. It’s a great payday indeed! We need to think back to our bankruptcy days and the times we disagreed with what our National UAW negotiators were doing for us. Thank You Ladies and Gentlemen of the UAW Negotiating Teams! Truly, does anyone believe that GM, Ford, FCA or any automotive company would just hand their employee’s a $12,000 check and say THANKS!
The Shop Committee continues on a daily basis to ask for our Temporary Employees to be converted to permanent. Our plant can in no way function at its current capacity without them. Please, help us and also ask every member of management every day for this to happen. Let’s get them included in our Permanent Rolls for everyone’s benefit.
A few new signs have been added in the plant to let employees know that taking pictures within the company property is strictly forbidden! It is a Corporate Policy and subject to firing if you are caught. Use a bit of common sense and please refrain from this activity. It’s to the point that Management is talking about having all cellphone cameras required to have a sticker over the lens. Responsible use of cell phones would go a long way in helping the Shop Committee deter Management from imposing more restrictive resolutions.
The Shop Committee is looking, as always, to procure more new work in the plant. We are looking at ideas to add far more work to the Offline Area. Your ideas are welcome, contact your Shop Committee.
On a lighter side: Hoping you all let your Special Someone, your family members, or Whoever know on Valentine’s Day just how special they are! A simple card, kiss, or even a few kind words of what they mean to you can do such amazing things in a person’s disposition toward life!
Finally, the Shop Committee at CCA Flint, and the entire membership there, wishes to THANK and WISH THE BEST to Mr. Reggie Smith! A JOB WELL DONE! You will indeed be dearly missed by all. I personally want to THANK YOU my friend, for all of your help and guidance through many situations both good and bad. You have taught me so much. May your future bring only good things to your life.
Till next time, PEACE!

January
Here we are, a brand new year and hopefully lots of opportunities. The Shop Committee wishes to welcome you back to CCA-Flint for another year. We hope your Holiday was as enjoyable as planned.
As has been the case, our number one goal is to get the temporary employees hired! Our Management understands and is in total agreement with the Shop Committee. We are pushing our side, as are they, to make it happen as soon as possible.
Remember to get your vacation wishes known as soon as possible. Get the forms from your Supervisor and fill them out. The earlier you can do this, the better for all. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your Committeeperson as soon as you can.
Once again, there are problems with the KRONOS time system. Remember to check your hours prior to the end of your shift every Monday to make sure your pay is correct. Take all problems to your Supervisor as soon as you can. If they will not help, contact your Committeeperson to get them involved. Remember, your Committeeperson does not pay you, Management does!
General Motors once again appears to have had a banner year in automotive sales. It looks like profit sharing will once again be fruitful for the membership! We will keep you informed as soon as we hear more about the numbers and dates. Thank you, UAW negotiators, and all hourly employees for your hard work.
We have been informed that Legal Services will go active sometime this month. More to come as soon as the date has been released.
January 16th was Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. I hope everyone took time to remember what the day is all about and how it affects our country and each of us personally.
The Shop Committee has a strong concern with all the gossip and use of social media in negative ways. WE are the UNION! We can argue, disagree with each other, have major differing opinions, but in the end... we must stand together to be successful in all our endeavors.
Let's continue to move CCA-Flint and the rest of Local 659 forward in 2017. New work, more new hires, JOBS! JOBS! JOBS! Let's set the example right here in Swartz Creek for all to follow.

December
Wow! How the years continue to simply fly by. Santa is once again taking flight to put those darling smiles on children’s faces. One absolutely just has TO BELIEVE!
The Shop Committee and the entire Support Team at CCA Flint want to wish a VERY MERRY, PEACEFUL CHRISTMAS to ALL! We’d like to thank the Officers of Local 659 and their Support Personnel for all that they do for us and the surrounding communities. It’s a very warm and wonderful feeling to know that they are standing shoulder to shoulder with us and all UAW Members everywhere.
In the same spirit, a very big THANK YOU to those that volunteered for the OLD NEWSBOYS PAPER SALE across the community, a rousing success once again for a very worthy cause. We wish we could have gotten everyone released to experience what it’s like, but alas, maybe next year.
The Shop Committee is looking forward to an exciting year at CCA. We need everyone’s help and ideas to continue our growth trend. Our foremost agenda is to get the remaining Temporary Workers on the permanent employee roll ASAP! We continue to hammer Management with this day after day. It’s apparent that they are vital to our keeping up with work load schedules and taking care of the Customer! Come on Management, let’s move forward. Make their Christmas special and convert all of them.
As always, Management continues to make life harder for all of us. Be diligent, do your job. Nothing more is required. Come to work with expectations of fulfilling your family’s as well as your needs. Be courteous to your fellow workers, a simple smile may make a person’s day more than you realize. We know, much easier said than done sometimes. Rumors and gossip help no one! Work safely, we cannot stress this enough. It’s one thing that the Shop Committee and Management do agree on.
Just released- The Legal Services Plan has been finalized and will begin during the month of January, 2017, more specifics to follow soon.
Remember, our doors are ALWAYS OPEN TO YOU! You can help to keep the Shop Committee informed as we can you.
PEACE!

November
Once again, social media has reared it's ugly head in the plant. Please think before you post. Management is watching very closely! Be very careful who you mark as friends.
A number of events were planned for Veteran's week. Shirts were being sold as well as tickets for a hot dog lunch. There are tickets available for the Harley-Davidson Motorcycle raffle. Please remember the true meaning of Veteran's Day and say thank you to them, shake their hand, or give them a hug from the heart. They have given so much for our country.
A "Thank you" goes out to all those who helped with our Breast Cancer Awareness events, as well as the United Way Basket Raffle! Both were huge successes. Our plant continues to be one of the most generous per capita in the area.
A bake sale was held on Friday, November 4, for the Women's Safe House. This facility houses women and children who are victims of domestic violence, or spousal abuse in most instances. We will also be collecting toys, clothes, and personal items for the cause. Please be generous, as always.
The annual Old Newsboys Campaign kicked off on Thursday, November 3. In 2015, Old Newsboys helped 6,436 Flint-area children have a much better Christmas than they had hoped for. Many fundraisers will be held in the next 2 months. Please remember those less fortunate than us!
There seems to be constant problems with the KRONOS timekeeping system. Remember, it is your responsibility to check your hours ever week; daily if you can. Contact your immediate supervisor if you spot a problem as early in the week as possible. It is Management's responsibility to make it correct!
Equalization sheets are also Management's responsibility. If they are not being posted timely, contact a member of the Shop Committee.
Flu shots are now available in the Medical Department. Remember also to save a VR day or two if you can, just in case you are unfortunate enough to catch the flu. Be safe, expect the unexpected.
On a positive note: recently, trial tests on small parts typically painted by a third-party supplier have been conducted in the Paint Shop, with encouraging results. The more work we can bring back in house, the better for all. The Shop Committee continues to explore more opportunities to ensure the future of our plant. All ideas are welcome! We need your support to make things happen.
The Shop Committee, on behalf of all our employees, would like to welcome our new plant manager, Jose Espinosa, previously from Fort Worth CCA. We are looking forward to a great working relationship to further Flint CCA's Leadership role in the corporation.

October
We are happy to announce that on October 3, 2016 twelve of our temporary employees were converted to permanent status. The Shop Committee asks management every week to convert our temps to permanent status. It's nice to see our effort paid off. We will continue our quest to make everyone a permanent employee of General Motors.
Thanks goes out to all our golfers and volunteers who participated in our Old Newsboys Golf Tournament. It was especially encouraging to see many of our newer employees show up. Our retirees also continued their support of the worthy cause.
Many thanks from the Shop Committee for all who helped us raise money for Old Newsboys. Without you, this event would not be the success it is. A total of $6,180 was raised to help every needy child have a wonderful Christmas.
We have experienced a number of social media postings that may not be appropriate for work. Please be mindful of anything that you may post before doing so. Also, be reminded that earbuds, headphones, texting, and talking while driving are prohibited in the plant!
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the UAW Local 659 Women's Committee will be on hand every Thursday during October holding a different fundraiser. Let's help eradicate breast cancer. Please be generous in your donations and remember all the victims of this awful disease. Wear pink on Thursdays for a chance to win a gift card, compliments of your Shop Committee.
Halloween will soon be upon us. Please drive safely and watch closely for all the children celebrating if you are out and about on this fun-filled evening.
There will be 4 paid holidays in November. The 8th is Election Day, the 11th is Veterans Day, the 24th and 25th are Thanksgiving Holidays. Please take time to vote, remember those who helped win our Freedom, and spend time with friends and family while giving "thanks" for everything we have in our lives.
We've had a rash of incidents involving abusive language lately. Please remember to treat everyone with the same respect and dignity that you would expect from them. Please stop and think about what you are saying before you say something irrational. Remember, one kind word can change someone's entire day!
Bow hunters, enjoy the outdoors, be silent, aim true, and reap the rewards. Most of all, be safe! We want to see you back at work and hear the stories!

September
The Shop Committee would like to welcome everyone back from summer break. Hope all of you had time to spend with your family and friends.
We continue to ask management to convert all of our temps to permanent employees. It's getting even more obvious that we have a need for all of them.
Apparently, many of the temps are still not paying Union dues, through no fault of their own. The Shop Committee requests that those of you who aren't, please let a member of the Shop Committee know so we can compile a list. The problem seems to be with payroll.
Proofing of the new Local Agreement continues at a snail pace! We remind management every week that this needs to be completed ASAP. Once proofed, we can get it to the printer and into the membership's hands. We thank you all for your continued patience.
The four percent lump-sum raise negotiated by our National UAW leaders is due to be paid the week of October 16. This amount is based on all of the hours worked between September 15, 2015 and September 18, 2016. Thank God for the UAW!
The Local 6559 Veterans Committee will be raffling off a 2017 Harley Davidson Road King. Tickets are available now from Ashley Seder on 1st Shift and Tony Redmond on 2nd & 3rd shifts. Please help support the men and women who helped win our freedom!
On a sad note - condolences has been sent to UAW Vice President Cindy Estrada and family from the entire CCA Swartz Creek UAW Local 659 Membership on the loss of her husband, Frank White. Our prayers are with her.

June
Finally, it appears that summer is truly here! Enjoy the wonderful weather with your families as much as you can, but please be responsible in all you do.
Management at CCA continues to want to enforce the "Davison Road" methods of operation we all hear so much about. Perry, Tony, and I are so tired of this being forced on us each and every day. We need YOUR HELP to end this. We are Union at CCA Flint, and we need to all stick together and solve these issues. All ideas are welcome and the Shop Committee wants to hear them! Get us all the facts, not rumors or hearsay, and we can deal with it, as an entire membership.
A wise man once told me that to listen before reacting will solve many more problems than it creates. With that, we wish a Happy Father's Day from the CCA Shop Committee to all the dads out there. Enjoy your dedicated day of thanks.
We believe that we are the best example of productivity in the CCA organization and the other Managers, including Davison Rd., should be following our example! Let's make that happen. Cooperation does not mean to be walked over! A fair day's work for a fair wage. Union Strong!

May
The Shop Committee would like to congratulate all of our May 1st Retirees. This includes the last of the Special Attrition Retirees. We wish all of you good health and a long and Happy Retirement!!
The Shop Committee would like to personally Thank our Chairman, Dave Perina, for his service to the Shop Committee and this Membership. Dave came on board in 2008, he was instrumental in bringing back our plant from the floundering position we were in, to what we are today. Through his hard work, his fortitude, and his great work ethic, he was successful in securing new work, new relationships, and new opportunity for our facility. The addition of newly hired employees along with our current temps is a testimonial to his hard work!! We would like to Thank Dave for bringing both the Shop Committee and the plant together and we wish him and his family the best in his retirement years.
Once again management is making new rules or changing current rules to their benefit. To many of them come from plants that have living agreements or 14 page Local Agreements. We Do Not have either of these in Flint!! If you feel that management is not abiding by either the Local Agreement or National Agreement, please place a call to your Committeeperson.
Memorial Day will soon be upon us. Please take time with your family and friends to enjoy your UAW negotiated three day weekend.
Also keep in mind that school will soon be out. Please drive careful and watch for children while you are out and about.

April
The Shop Committee would like to congratulate all of our April 1st retirees. We wish them all good health and many years of relaxing times with family and friends.
There are many misconceptions regarding temps. Amongst them are if they are bumpable and if they have health care, plus many other issues. If you have any questions, please contact a member of the Shop Committee. Thank you.
The Shop Committee continues to encourage our management team to make more temps permanent status and that our volume supports the need for more people in the future.
Eligibility date for performance bonus lump sum payment is May 15th. The $1,000 will be payable the week ending June 12th. Thank God for the UAW!
We have recently obtained 5 new panels from the newly remodeled GMC Acadia to paint and distribute. This is another win for the membership at Flint Processing Center!
May's Membership Meeting will be May 15th, due to the Mother's Day Holiday observed May 8th.

March
The Shop Committee would like to say "Thank You" to the entire membership for ratifying our Local Agreement for the next 4 years. Production passed it 77% (yes) to 23% (no) and Skilled Trades passed it 56% (yes) to 44% (no). Thanks again to all who took the time to vote. We greatly appreciate it.
On a personal note, I, Dave Perina, will be taking the Special Attrition Package effective May 1, 2016. I am looking forward to spending time with my family and friends in my retirement, and taking the time to do some hunting and other outdoor activities.
It has been a complete honor to represent you, the membership, through our endeavors with management and serving this membership has been an ongoing privilege on my part. I will always remember the last 8 years with warm regards toward you at Flint CCA. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of it.
All In-Progress employees (the Temps converted to Permanent employees) must call the GM Benefits Center at 1-800-489-4646 to add their dependants for vision and dental coverage. If you have any questions, please call Dorothy Hankins, our Benefits Representative, at 810-635-5825.
The Shop Committee would like to thank all our UAW Brothers and Sisters who retired on March 1st for all their years of dedicated service to GM. Through your efforts, we were able to secure a future for all the Brothers and Sisters you left behind. Congratulations to all!
Please enjoy the long Easter Holiday weekend from March 25-28. You UAW negotiated team was successful in renegotiating the "Monday" after Easter weekend time off. This provides a 4 dat weekend for all those wishing to take advantage of it.
The annual "UAW Night at the Joe" event will take place on Friday, April 1. This is always a fun event and we urge everyone to sign up for a great time with fellow UAW Brothers and Sisters. Tickets are still available at the Union Hall.

February
The Shop Committee would like to remind everyone that the profit sharing payout will be paid on Friday, February 26. Also please remember that your vacation slips must be turned in to management by Monday, February 29, 2016.
The Shop Committee is still trying to meet with management on re-negotiating our Local Agreement. Management has yet to set up any dates and times for us to sit down and discuss the issues as they pertain to our agreement. We are willing to meet with management any time and any place. The Shop Committee will keep the membership informed as we move forward with these important issues.
The Shop Committee would also like to congratulate the eight (8) recent new hires who were converted over from temporary employees on Monday, February 8, 2016. Welcome and we wish you the best of luck in your UAW Career!

January
The Shop Committee would like to welcome back all of our members from the Christmas-New Year break. We hope all of you enjoyed the time with family and friends, and enjoyed some well-deserved rest. We here at CCA-Flint are looking forward to having a safe and prosperous new year for 2016.
Monday, January 18 was the remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This is a paid holiday under the terms of the UAW-GM National Agreement for 2015. Please honor Dr. King's legacy by reflecting on all that he accomplished for this country, and all the people who were helped by his dedication and leadership towards human rights and diversity, among all the people of this great nation.
Payment of your unused vacation entitlement hours will be payable by January 29, 2016 on your regular paycheck. Vacation forms for 2016, are available now, so just ask your supervisor for a 2016 vacation form. Remember, they must be filled out and returned to your supervisor by Monday, February 29, 2016.
Just as a reminder, the 2015 Special Attrition Program for eligible production employees will be ending on Monday, January 25, 2016 at 4 p.m. This is the close of the application period for this program. Any production employee desirous of this program must have their application turned in and signed by management by this time. Employees will be notified by management of their eligibility starting in early February, 2016.
Due to the recent rash of bug bites in our facility, the Shop Committee is asking that any employee experiencing any bites to please report them to the medical department when you first notice them. Failure to do so could result in discipline by management, for not reporting an "injury" in a timely manner.
Please remember that Thursday, Feb. 11th, is the observance of the "Sit-Down Strike." Please keep the former Sit-Downers in our thoughts and prayers on this day. Without their sacrifice, we would not be enjoying the working conditions and benefits that the Union has provided us. Please wear a white shirt or blouse on Thursday to show your support for what those brave men and women have done for the middle class and our great union.

December
The Christmas season is upon us and once again we are supporting our Old Newsboys campaign, through all of your generous donations. Please remember those who are less fortunate than us, during this Holiday Season. Our estimated contribution to "Old Newsboys" this year will be about $25,000 from the members of Customer Care and After Sales - Flint. Thank you one and all for helping for this worthy cause!
This Shop Committee continues on our quest to procure work for our facility! We are also exploring more work for our Burton facility as well, to grow that business, as we move forward. We will be discussing with management their commitment to bring in new work, sometime in the first quarter of the new year.
None of this would be possible if it wasn't for all of your hard work and dedication to our facility! Thank you for being the best workforce in the painting and warehousing industry!
As many of you know, we are no longer able to ride two-wheel bikes in our facility. Management wanted to scrap all two-wheel bikes left in the plant. Through the hard work of the Shop Committee, as well as our membership, we were able to redistribute 48 bicycles to those less fortunate than us. Thanks to all who helped in this worthy cause.
The Shop Committee, along with our appointed UAW Representatives and Local Unit Executive Board, would like to wish our membership a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Please drive safely and be safe in all that you do during the Holidays! Again, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
We would also like to wish our Regional Director, Gerald Kariem, and his staff, along with our Local 659 President Reggie Smith, the Officers. and their staff, a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, from all of us at CCA-Flint. Enjoy the Holidays!

November
The Shop Committee would like to Thank all our UAW Brothers and Sisters who took the time to vote on our National Agreement.
Due to the numbers of recent incidents involving two wheel bikes in our plant, management has decided to remove all two wheel bikes from the complex. The Shop Committee argued that all bikes should go, to make it fair across the board! Management has stated that anyone who has a medical reason to require a 3 wheeler or need use one in their job assignment will be issued a 3 wheel bike upon request to management.
A number of employees have found discrepancies in their vacation hours on their pay stub from that on the ice machine. Please follow these closely. Also, employees have been getting docked for going out for lunch if your supervisor doesn’t properly span you on kronos.
Veteran’s Day will be celebrated on November 16th this year and the 10th, 11th, and 12th the next three years. This was due to a demand to return Veteran’s Day to the actual day it is celebrated. This Shop Committee would like to thank all those Veterans who fought for the freedom that we have today!!
Our plant was recently awarded a lunch for our efforts in raising donations for United Negro College Fund. Once again we have proven that we are the most giving plant per capita of any in the Flint area. That is something we should all be proud of!!
Local Negotiations has slowed to a snails-pace. After many hours of bantering and arguing with management they have decided that all answers are “NO” the Shop Committee is not interested in a concessionary Agreement. We have conceded more than enough over the last 8 years!! We will keep you up-dated as developments occur.

October
This Shop Committee would like to thank all who participated in our 13th Annual Old Newsboys Golf Outing. The weather was great and a good time was had by all. To date we have made over $7,000 for Old Newsboys so that “No Child Will Be Forgotten”.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, every Thursday, during the month of October is “Wear Pink and show support” Day. If you wear pink on these days, you will get a free raffle ticket for a chance to win a $25.00 gift card. Many more events are planned for this great cause to get rid of Breast Cancer! Thanks for your corporation.
The Shop Committee would like to thank the Women’s Committee and Community Service Committee for all that they do for this, and all of the other charitable causes though-out the year!
Congratulations, goes out to our seven recent Retirees! Thanks for all that you have done to help make this facility successful. Enjoy your well-deserved Retirement!
The Shop Committee continues to meet with management to negotiate a new Local Agreement. Progress is being made and we are optimistic on getting a new and equitable agreement for the membership here at C.C.A. Flint.
This Shop Committee would like to extend a warm “welcome” to our newly hired temporary workers here at C.C.A. Flint. The last group of workers is scheduled to be trained the week of October 12, 2015 bringing our total to 15 temporary workers, for our facility.

September
The Shop Committee and Staff would like to welcome everyone back from the summer vacation period, and the Labor Day Holiday. We hope all of you spent your summer enjoying it with family and friends. School is back in session, so please look out for the children and drive safely! PLEASE “DO NOT TEXT AND DRIVE”, AND BE SAFE!
National Negotiations are moving along at a brisk pace and hopefully we will know the outcome in a few more days. We also send our best regards to the National Negotiation Committee, to let them know that we are supporting them 100% here at C.C.A. Flint.
At the local level, talks are moving ahead at a moderate pace with your committee meeting with management daily to discuss issues important to C.C.A. Flint. We will keep you posted as progress is made, and a settlement is achieved.
The Shop Committee and management have agreed to bring in 15 temporary workers over the next 2 months, to help relieve the extra production demands, created by the “insourcing” of the new B Commodity Code Work in the Service Warehouse.
We will also be adding 1 (one) permanent production employee to our ranks, because of a transfer from our facility. This should be done in the next few weeks.
The Paint Shop is staying busy with their current bridge runs of the 2015 models of the Volt, Terrain Hood, K2XX Truck Parts, the Camaro and the Cruze. Adding this work with our regular model mix will keep us working pretty steady. Also, the upcoming build outs for the SRX, the Lacrosse, the Arcadia, the Malibu, and the old Impala, all Sheet metal work that is scheduled to be done in the first six months of 2016, should keep us busy as well.

April
The Shop Committee would like to welcome back everyone from their Easter holiday break. Hope all of you had time to spend the holiday with your family.
Management is at it again! After years of allowing people to leave for appointments and come back later, they are forcing people to take four (4) hours of work! Meanwhile, they gripe about not having enough people to run all the operations? It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that they have the problem and not us!! Or does it??
Management has also decided to enforce Shop Rule #1! After many years of no whistles to start work or breaks, they have now created the “Jeopardy Bell”. The membership is now in “Jeopardy” if they aren’t on the job when the “Jeopardy Bell” plays its jingle! What a unique concept this is.
Management also decided to randomly change the Paint Shop maintenance shut-down from Easter weekend to the week of April 17-19 without notifying the Shop Committee in a timely manner! Almost sounds like it might be contract year. What do you think??
The Shop Committee is currently addressing all of those issues with the Plant Labor Representative. Thanks in advance for your patience.
Many thanks goes out to Tony Redmond and the rest of our Local 659 Recreation Committee for putting on another successful Easter Egg Hunt. Much time, effort and thought goes into this project every year to make it the event it has become thanks to all those who volunteered.
We would like to welcome our new Plant Manager, Gene Lauer to our facility. The Shop Committee has had the opportunity to walk him through most of our Districts. He was amazed at the size and scope of work at our Plant. We continue to inform him that we have the best paint and processing team and warehousing team in the industry.
The Sourcing Team, along with the Shop Committee is pursuing more part numbers to bring to our facility. We will keep you posted on any new work coming in.
Please remember that Local Demands must be in by Wednesday, April 15th. Please sign your name legibly at the bottom so we can contact you if we have questions.

March
The Shop Committee would like to congratulate all of our UAW Brothers and Sisters for a banner year in 2014. The end result was Profit Sharing checks of $9,000.00 to anyone working at least 1,850 hours. It’s so nice to get awarded for our hard work and dedication to General Motors. It wasn’t long ago that we went through bankruptcy!!
Local Demands are available from any Shop Committee Member or in the UAW Work Centers, Please feel free to pick one up if there is anything you would like to see changed or added to the Local Agreement. Local Demands must be turned in no later than April 15th. Thanks for your cooperation.
We continue to see an increase in people being put on notice by management, especially for leaving early or coming back late for breaks and lunches. We don’t know if this is some kind of pre-negotiation practice or not, but please be aware of management’s latest behavior!!
Our Joint Sourcing team had secured 20-plus new part numbers for the Service Warehouse, B Section, with the possibility of adding several more part numbers in the future. The work amounts to about 300 lines per month as of now, but could increase in the future. This new work should begin to arrive within the next 30 to 45 days.
The Shop Committee would like to wish everyone a Safe and Happy Easter with family and friends. Please be careful when you’re out and about, and watch out for the other guy.

January
The Shop Committee would like to welcome back all of our members from the Christmas Holiday Break. We hope all of you had a great time with family and friends. We are looking forward to having a safe and prosperous new year for 2015.
Once again, the Flint C.C.A. facility has proven we are the most giving plant per capita of any in the Flint area. Our Old Newsboys Campaign raised approximately $25,600, so that many needy children would have a nice Christmas. We thank each and every one of you for your kindness and generosity to make this such a success.
Monday, January 19, was the remembrance of Martin Luther King, Jr. a day to reflect on all that Dr. King has done for this country and all the people helped by his leadership.
Payment of the unused vacation entitlement hours will be payable on January 30, 2015 on your regular pay check. Vacation forms for the 2015 year are available now. Just ask your supervisor for a 2015 vacation form. Remember, they must be filled out and returned to your supervisor by February 28, 2015.
This past year (2014) was a very good year for the majority of our membership. This Shop Committee could not be any prouder and pleased with the effort that our UAW Brothers and Sisters have put forth to help us in our quest to grow our business, here at Flint CCA. If it wasn't for all of you, our effort as a Shop Committee to maintain and pursue new work would be fruitless. Once again, thanks to all of you for doing a fantastic job all year long!!

November
As of November 3rd, 2014 Management decided they no longer needed temporary workers at our facility and have laid-off the fourteen (14) temporary workers we had. The Shop Committee would like to thank these workers for a job well done. Our hats go off to them for their dedication and hard work at our facility these past several months, Thanks again!
The Shop Committee would like to thank the Women’s Committee and Community Service Committee, Tammy Byrtus, Michele Gregory, and Larry Cochrane, respectfully, for their successful Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. Please be generous in your donations! All proceeds will be donated to the V.F.W. National Home for Women and Children of our Veterans in Eaton Rapids, Michigan. The Shop Committee would like to give thanks to all of our Veterans. The U.A.W. will observe Veterans Day on Friday, November 14th. Please enjoy your negotiated time off.

October
The Shop Committee would like to thank all who participated in our 12th Annual Old Newsboys Golf Outing. The weather held out and a good time was the "course" of the day. To date we have made $7,104 for Old Newsboys so that "No Child Will Be Forgotten."
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Every Thursday during October is "wear pink" day. If anyone wears pink on these days, they will get a free raffle ticket for a chance to win a $25 gift card. Many other events are planned for this wonderful cause to eradicate breast cancer! Thanks for your cooperation.
The Shop Committee would like to thank the Women's Committee and Community Service Committee for all they do for our charitable causes.
The Annual Fall Craft Show will be held on Saturday, November 8th at the Local 659 Hall. Vending space is still available by calling 232-4130 ext. 217. Please make a point to attend this wonderful event.
Please remember Tuesday, November 4th is Election Day. We must support those candidates who choose to support labor!!
The giving season is upon us, and from now through the end of the year we will be asking for charitable contributions. We are one of the most giving plants, per capita, of all in the Flint area. Please remember all those who are less fortunate than we are.
It is also management's giving season giving discipline!! Please make sure that you come in on time, and don't leave early for break, lunch, or quitting time. The peeping Toms are out and about!!

The Shop Committee would like to welcome everyone back from the summer vacation period, as well as the Labor Day Holiday. We hope all of you had time to spend with your family and friends. Also, please remember that the schools are back in session and many children and school buses are out and about daily! Please look out for the children and drive safely. Please don't text and drive!
The Shop Committee would like to extend a warm "welcome" to our newly hired and transferred UAW Brothers and Sisters. As of September 1, 2014, we have twenty-two (22) new hires and three (3) Appendix A transfers at our facility. With these additions to our workforce our headcount for our plant now stands at 317 total, with another 17 employees hired as temporary workers/summer help! Please remember to work safely at all times.
The Shop Committee, along with our Joint Sourcing Team has been successful in acquiring "New Aluminum" work for our Paint Shop. This work includes front bumper ends, a lift gate, and truck hoods. Including the new 2015 Canyon/Colorado hood and the K2 SUV aluminum hood. In all, we have brought in 30 out of 45 aluminum part numbers since January 1, 2014. A big "THANKS" goes out to our Joint Sourcing Team for a job well done!

July 2014
Now that vacation season is upon us, please be considerate of your co-workers. If you are not going to use your pre-approved vacation time off, notify your supervisor that you wish to cancel your vacation time off, so that other employees can move up the waiting list to get time off. Thank you.
We have hired 13 temporary employees to help with vacation schedules so our employees can get vacation time off in both plant 1 & 2.
We are also considering bringing in several more temporary employees to help with the "Product Safety Recall" work that we have just received in our facility! It is anticipated that this work will last for the next several months and possibly longer!
We have received word that we have been awarded 2 more aluminum hoods and we are currently testing the new Cadillac-CTS Aluminum Hood. This hood is low volume to start out with and the 1st year forecast is for 575 pieces. Our facility is also bidding on the K2XX model aluminum truck life gate, as well as deck lids and bumper bats for our paint shop.
The Shop Committee would also like to remind everyone about our Annual Old Newsboys Golf Scramble to be held September 21, 2014. Please inquire with any Shop Committeeman if you're interested in donating any prizes or gifts for this outing, or if you are interested in golfing.

February
GM announced its quarter and total profits for the year 2013, with a total profit sharing amount of $7,500 for eligible employees. Profit sharing is based on hours of 1,850 for the year for a full share of $7,500. Employees who have less than that will have their share pro-rated based on the eligible hours they had for 2013.
The 27th Annual UAW Local 659 Bowling Tournament this year will be held Saturday, March 15th at Richfield Bowl. For information, call the union hall or ask your Shop Committeeperson.
The Shop Committee continues to have disagreements with management on a daily basis. Management wants to talk about us being joint partners in the business, when in fact they institute new processes without consulting with the Shop Committee, and usually do what they want to do anyway. It's like looking in the mirror prior to bankruptcy. How soon they forget. They need to realize we are their partners not the enemy!
In honor of our past UAW Brothers and Sisters who formed this great union, we would like to reprint the definition of SCAB. After God had finished the rattle snake, the toad, and the vampire, he had some awful stuff left over with which he made a SCAB. A SCAB is a two-legged thing with a corkscrew soul, a waterlogged brain, and a combination backbone made of jelly and glue. Where others have hearts the SCAB carries tumors of rotten principles. Judas Iscariot was a gentleman compared to a SCAB , for betraying his master he had the character to hang himself - the SCAB hasn't. There is nothing lower than a SCAB!!!!
On behalf of the Shop Committee and UAW Staff, we want to say "THANK YOU" to the Sit-Downers and those who followed
January
The Shop Committee would like to welcome everyone back from their holiday break. We hope you all had a good time with friends and family.
A number of UAW Brothers and Sisters have raised questions about the new seniority list that was posted by management. If anyone feels their seniority date is wrong, please feel free to contact a member of management or report it to the personnel office. It is management's responsibility.
Also, a number of Two-Tier employees have recently noticed they have not received their wage increases. This has been addressed and management is currently working on this problem.
Obviously, the recent cold snap has brought heat issues in the plant to the forefront. Our system is antiquated at best. The Shop Committee has addressed this with the proper management personnel and we hope to get a prompt resolution to this ongoing problem.
Leftover vacation hours will be payable on January 31st. Vacation forms for 2014 will also be available soon. Please be sure to fill your forms out and return them to your supervisor by February 28th.
Just a reminder, our Unit Membership Meetings are held the 2nd Sunday of each month at the Region 1-C Hall, on the corner of Van Slyke and Atherton Roads at 12:30 pm. Please try to attend your Membership Meetings.

December
Congratulations to our Preventative Maintenance Team for achieving an almost unheard of perfect score of 1,500 points on our recent re-certification audit for phase III. Thank you to all of our team for your hard work. You are all greatly appreciated!!
The Christmas season is upon us and once again we will be supporting our Old Newsboys campaign, through all your generous donations. Please remember these less fortunate than us during these trying times.
The Shop Committee continues on our quest to procure more work for our facility. We are exploring more work for Burton to grow that business, as well as our commitment to paint aluminum parts by the first quarter of the new year. None of this would be possible if it wasn't for all of our UAW Brothers and Sisters. You continue to be the best workforce in the warehousing and paint industry!!!
Please don't forget the YWCA Women's Shelter. Many women and children are currently housed at the shelter. Please bring all donations for these unfortunate women and children in to our drop-off baskets by both gates. There are lists posted there with all they need. Thank you.
The Shop Committee would like to wish all of our membership a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Please drive safely and spend time with family and friends during your holiday.
A special Merry Christmas to our Officers and Staff at both Region 1-C and our Local 659 Hall. A very special thanks also goes out to all our secretaries at both facilities. Sometimes we don't give them all the credit they deserve.

Management continues to ignore our requests to either repair out turnstiles or to purchase new ones. This has been an outgoing problem since the turnstiles were reprogrammed. Please remember that our UAW maintenance Brothers and Sisters do not maintain this system. It is management's obligation to make sure they work correctly! Please feel free to call or tell any management person about any problems you are experiencing with this system!
We continue to experience management adding more responsibility to our job element sheets (J.E.S.), (formerly S.O.P.) while expecting us to improve our "Productivity" on a continuous basis! At what point does it reach the saturation point??? We must remember to work safely and verify, verify, verify!! Management now has so many acronyms that we have a hard time figuring out what is what anymore.
We continue to get complaints about commwip, lean, layered audits and S.I.R.'s Management seems to think that they have the right to ask us about everything we do at all times of the day to try to understand us better. The only true measure would be if they experienced our jobs first hand! We are the best workforce in the world and that's why we make everything look so easy. Management needs to realize it's not as easy as we make it look! Safety incident review should be changed to safety interrogation review. The only thing missing is a single chair and a bare light bulb hanging from the ceiling!!
Maybe management needs to brush up on their H.T.T.P. skills! (how to treat people). All of the above need to come with a Miranda Rights warning that anything you say or do can or will be used against you in a kangaroo court!!!
Despite all this, our UAW Brothers and Sisters continue to set new records on a regular basis. Our hates go off to all of you for a job well done!!!
The Evelynne Aimee Foundation will be holding their first Annual Deer Widows Pamper Yourself Party at the Local 659 Union Hall in Flint on November 24th, from 1 pm - 5 pm.
The UAW Local 659 Santa's Christmas Party will be held on December 8th, at our 659 Union Hall from 1 pm - 4 pm. The Region 1-C Bowling Tournament will be held on January 11th and 12th, 2014 at Airport Lanes in Jackson, Michigan. Please see flyers posted around the plant for more information.
If anyone has any suggestions on any recreation events, please contact Tony Redmond at your convenience. Please remember all the men and women who fought for our freedoms. Without their sacrifice we wouldn't have what we have today!
The UAW observed Veteran's Day on Friday, November 15th. Hope you enjoyed your negotiated time off.
The Shop Committee would like to wish everyone and their families a safe and Happy Thanksgiving Holiday. Please enjoy the time off with friends and family.

October
The Shop Committee would like to welcome back three of our laid-off UAW Brothers and Sisters. It was through our due diligence that we were able to return them to our plant in a timely manner. We continue to try to return our two laid-off UAW Brothers and Sisters back to work.
The Shop Committee continues to pursue any and all work that we can obtain for our facility. It is anticipated that the Burton Warehouse work will commence on November 4th. This work was previously being done by third party suppliers. The Shop Committee believes that we can be successful in performing any work currently being done by other suppliers. This would not be possible if we didn't have the best work force in General Motors, thanks to all of you from the Shop Committee.
Just a reminder to our membership that our Legal Service Plan expires at the end of the year, please make sure you utilize this UAW negotiated benefit prior to December 31st, many members have not taken advantage of this plan. Please feel free to utilize it for wills, trust, legal problems, etc. If you open a case before the end of the year, it will carry over until it is concluded.
The Old Newsboys Golf Outing was a huge success once again this year our thanks goes out to all who attended. Very special thanks go out to our volunteers. Without them this event would not be the success it has been over the years.
The United Way Campaign was also a huge success, raising approximately $4,500.00 for the Women's Shelter along with clothes and other personal items for those less fortunate than us. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Many events are scheduled including Think Pink Thursday. Show your support by wearing either a Cancer Shirt and/or a pink shirt to get a ticket to win a $30 gift card each week, donated by the Shop Committee. We would like to thank our community service Rep. Larry Cochrane, along with our Women's Committee Reps. Michele Gregory and Tammy Byrtus for all their hard work for both the United Way campaign and Breast Cancer Awareness month.
The Annual Fall Craft Show will be held at our Local 659 Union Hall on November 9th from 9 am - 4 pm. If you would like to rent vendor space or just browse through all the nice merchandise, please make a note of being there. Flyers are posted around the plant if you are interested.

September
The Shop Committee would like to welcome everyone back from the Labor Day Holiday as well as the Summer Vacation period. We hope all of you had time to spend with your family and friends. Please remember that school is back in session and many children and school buses are out and about. Please drive safely and don't text and drive, or talk and drive!
Recently, management chose to discharge two of our Union Brothers and Sisters as well as lay off three more. This was done without prior notification to the Shop Committee! These actions are totally uncalled for. Management, once again, proves that they only want to preach "jointness" and not practice it. The Shop Committee will continue to get management to understand the true meaning of the word "jointness."
Once again management has reduced our head count while continuing to add to theirs! If they want to look at reducing costs, they need to look no further than the nearest mirror!
GM's commwhip, layered audits, and lean processing are nothing more than tools dreamed up by management to either reduce our union head count or get our Union Brothers and Sisters to do more work with fewer employees! Management chooses to preach how quality is so important while reducing our second shift quality inspector. The Shop Committee cannot even begin to justify management's actions.
The United Way Campaign is under way at our facility and is to run through the month of September. Please join the Women's and Community Service committees in their quest to help out our local YMCA through their fundraising efforts.
Our facility continues to be one of the most generous when it comes to charitable contributions. Thank you in advance from the Shop Committee.

August
The Shop Committee would like to extend a warm welcome to our newly hired UAW Brothers and Sisters. So, as of this writing we have 20 new employees. We would like to remind them that they need to work safely at all times and don't get caught up in the "speed factor" in order to get your job done quicker.
Also, we invite everyone to read the introduction (member of UAW Local 659 CCA Unit) section of your Local Agreement. Please pay special attention to the "you are the Union" section. We have recently experience some anti-unionism amongst our membership due to the fact that management doesn't want to abide by our Local Agreement. Management then tries to place the blame on the Union without sharing all the facts. Some Union Members then "run with it" and manage to spread the wrong word for them. Management then uses the disgruntlement to their advantage, and plays our Union Brother and Sisters against each other. This Shop Committee urges all our straight before spreading any vicious rumors. "You can't make it better by unfair criticism in the shop, or at gin mill bull sessions!"
It's getting close to that time of year when we begin to ask our members for donations to help a number of charities. Our plant has always been one of the best plants for charitable contributions. The Shop Committee thanks everyone in advance for all they do for the "less fortunate."
The 11th Annual CCA Old Newsboys Golf Outing will be held at the Flushing Valley Golf Course on Sunday, September 15th. This is a 4 person scramble format. Please see flyers posted around the plant for more information. We invite everyone to come out and enjoy a fun day of golf to help benefit our local children in the community. Remember that all proceeds go to make sure that we "let no children be forgotten."
The Shop Committee would like to wish our membership a safe and happy Labor Day. Please remember the real reason why we celebrate Labor Day!

March 2013
The Shop Committee continues to get inquiries about the ADP IPAY system. If you have not registered with this system, or you have questions about it, please see one of the Shop Committee members. Everyone who registers can access their account on the computers in the learning center.
We also continue to get questions regarding the traffic lights in front of the plant. These lights were changed by the city of Swartz Creek to allegedly improve traffic flow. The Shop Committee has expressed our concern about this at both the Shop Committee meetings and with the City of Swartz Creek.
The years to date hours now appear on your pay stub. Through the hard work and diligence of the Shop Committee we were able to get payroll to put this information back on our checks.
Once again the Flint Processing Center has won “Best in Business” for the G.M.C.C.A. Division. This is a prime example of the work that our Union Brothers and Sisters do for General Motors. We continue to be the best warehousing industry in the world today. Without your due diligence this would not happen. Thank goes out to each and every one of you for your efforts.
Despite being the “Best in Business” we still struggle with both new work as well as sales. We must continue to encourage our friends, relatives and neighbors to buy our original equipment parts! The Shop Committee continues to explore all possibilities for new work and more sales in order to grow our business.
The Shop Committee would like to wish all our UAW Brothers and Sisters a safe and happy Easter Holiday weekend. Make sure to spend some time with family and friends and utilize the Holiday Weekend to its fullest.
In Solidarity,
Dave Perina Chairman
